Vintage lucite, first manufactured in the 1930, became popular material for jewellery in the 40s.
In the 50s, as modernism took hold, lucite dominated costume jewellery and it was used to make brightly coloured pieces.
In the early 60s the concept of disposable culture became something to celebrate, as seen in the cheap mood fashions sold at Carnaby street in London and the rise of pop art. At the same time geometric space Age fashion by haute couture designers, like Cardin and Courèges, encouraged PVC dresses and accessories of lucite and perspex.
Early lucite jewels are highly collectable.
